Several years ago, Lifestyle & Mobility had an unexpected request from approximately 1500 miles south of our UK headquarters. A man named Christian, all the way in Malta, was looking for a wheelchair for his brother Luca. Specifically, it was a lightweight active wheelchair.
Unsurprisingly, Lifestyle & Mobility weren’t the first company a Maltese native would turn to, when in need of a prescriptive product. But when no Maltese, Italian, or Spanish companies were willing and able to help, Christian went further afield. All the way to Lifestyle & Mobility.
Mission to the Mediterranean

Luca on the streets of Malta
We’re nothing if not an ambitious company and not inclined to refuse custom. That’s not the whole story when it comes to Christian and Luca. An overseas prescriptive product deal takes a lot of time and effort, so why do it, when other companies wouldn’t? Because, given that we can, it wouldn’t have been in keeping with the Lifestyle & Mobility ethos to not do it. We believe that people deserve the right mobility equipment for their needs wherever they may live. And, with the Maltese request, we acted on that belief.
In fact, we’ve built on the original relationship which the company established with Luca and his family when Lenny, one of our senior prescriptive product experts, carried out the first video assessment with Luca. Luca recently took delivery of his third wheelchair from Lenny and our Retail Director Darren. Both Lenny and Darren, over the years, have established a rapport with Christian, Luca, and the rest of their family. The fact that Luca has continued to buy products from a company based over 1500 miles away shows just how effectively we’ve managed to meet his needs. This sort of customer loyalty is so valuable to us.
A Developing Relationship

Luca’s custom-painted Xenon 2 and Empulse StreetJet
For Luca’s latest wheelchair, he asked for something a bit different. He wanted a chair which reflected the maritime heritage of Malta. Lifestyle & Mobility were more than happy to oblige. The island’s traditional wooden fishing boats have a distinct blue-and-yellow paint scheme. And, now so do Luca’s Quickie Xenon 2, and his Empulse StreetJet. Sunrise Medical did a great job with those!
In Darren’s words, Luca and his family are always so grateful that he and Lenny make the trip out to them, that they are treated like members of the extended family themselves!
If you feel like getting more of a sense of this ongoing international relationship in action, then you can see a highlights reel from Darren and Lenny’s latest visit to Luca on the Lifestyle & mobility TikTok.
