Motion Healthcare made a splash with the lightweight folding Photon. This original model now has company. Let’s meet these two new Motion Photon powerchairs.
The Motion Photon HD
Shown to the left, the Motion Healthcare Photon HD immediately catches the eye on account of that upgraded battery. Heavy duty potency doesn’t end there with this chair though. Far from it!
This may be one of the first truly bariatric folding carbon powerchairs. It has an astounding maximum user weight of 31.5st. Whilst the enhanced battery size may not be suitable for overseas travel, this powerchair can still take you places. It can comfortably manage 10 miles on a full battery charge and is rated to exceed 13 miles when conditions are right. The ground clearance is a decent 1.6″. But, when it comes to slopes, the Photon HD, and in fact both of the new Photon powerchairs, are in a league of their own. They can handle 13.5° gradients safely. That equates to a very steep road, for want of a more technical term.
Despite what the name may imply, the Photon HD itself is rather lightweight, particularly with the battery and seat cushion removed. In that configuration, it tips the scales at a mere 19kg.
The Motion Photon Lite
Pictured to the right, the Photon Lite has a great deal to recommend it within the folding powerchair field. As the name suggests, it is indeed lightweight, just 13.9kg with the battery and seat cushion removed for transportation. The battery being airsafe (and safe for cruise ships, also) makes it an excellent travel companion.
Not dissimilar to the Photon HD, the Photon Lite also has a very good maximum user weight capacity of 22 stone. Both of the Motion Photon powerchairs discussed in this article also have a certain “secret weapon” when it comes to their suspension. Motion have used an anti-flex system seat. This innovative design setup provides users with excellent comfort. This is because, rather than the carbon frame, lumps and bumps in the terrain are absorbed through the rear shock suspension.
