Scooters in a Heatwave

When summer weather hots up, you’ll be wanting to get out into it on your scooter. And why not? These products are all about enhancing the accessibility of the wider world to you. Particularly in the modern age of ever more rugged mobility options, you can go further than before on your scooter in the great outdoors.

Obviously, not least if you are using one of the high end off road mobility scooters, you will want to make sure you get the most out of it. So, without further ado, here are some key tips for how to get the most out of your scooter in a heatwave or, a one-off hot summer’s day. The same principles apply for hot weather scooter maintenance and usage whether it’s a day or a month of high warmth.

It Begins With Batteries

Anyone who has used mobility scooters to any significant extent will appreciate the importance of looking after the scooter batteries. Without them working as they should, the scooter is a shadow of what it can be. Scooter batteries are powerful bits of kit, but there are simple, and often overlooked, ways that they can have their life extended. The ambient temperature around them is crucial. So, if we’re talking about using scooters in a heatwave, that is important to bear in mind. This is particularly the case when charging scooter batteries. As any scooter user manual will tell you – always avoid placing, let alone charging, batteries in direct sunlight.

Be Aware on Your Adventures

Many mobility scooters, particularly larger ones, incorporate design features which make it easier for you to stay as safe as possible in the sun. We’re talking simple solutions like large drink holders hidden in the cool and convenient space behind the tiller, as per the below picture:

Modern mobility scooter design has kept up with the increased range and ruggedness of larger scooters in particular. Because of this, you can be confident that, when you do travel, you’ll have everything you need at hand. Whether that’s a built-in USB charger, or a sunroof-style canopy as standard, there’s a lot to appreciate.

Accessorise!

Scooter canopies, in particular, can provide welcome shade from fierce sun. The ATTO scooter line takes the potential offered to users by customisation to new heights. Their modular products can be tailored to all sorts of climate conditions. To give just one example, check out the all-weather folding canopy shown to the right.

And, as ever, the right knowledge is an invaluable accessory in its own right. This article has hopefully been a good introduction to the do’s and don’ts of using mobility scooters in a heatwave. But, for more, you can always reach out and contact us right here and Lifestyle & Mobility.
